We are looking for experienced singers with a commitment to musicianship who enjoy singing choral masterworks spanning many centuries.
Auditions are typically held at the start of a new concert set when the Music Director is in town. If the Music Director cannot be present, he will appoint an “Assistant Director” to lead rehearsals until his return. New singers are strongly encouraged to sing with the Santa Cruz Chorale until the Music Director returns, at which time he will audition the new singers.
We are always looking for new singers. Singers should be able to read music and sight read, contribute musically to the group as a whole and be motivated to participate in activities to promote the choir. Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7-9:30 at the Peace United Church of Christ, 900 High St. Santa Cruz, CA
The audition is informal, friendly and private, and takes about ten minutes. You may bring a piece of music you have prepared, but it is not necessary. The Music Director may ask you to sing a passage of your choice from the music in the current concert set. You will be asked to sing some scales or some triads in order to help determine your range, timbre and your ability to avoid an unwelcome vibrato. Please be prepared to sight read a simple piece of music and answer basic questions about key signature, meter signature, etc.
After the audition, you will be notified whether or not your voice fits in with the ensemble. You will participate on a trial basis until after the first concert set under the director, at which time you will be notified as to whether or not you become a member of the chorale.
If you’d like to audition, you may make an appointment by calling (831) 427-8023 or filling out the form below:
