G.F. Handel, Blessed Are They That Considereth the Poor (or Foundling Hospital Anthem); J.S. Bach, Cantata BWV 137; Henry Purcell, Jubilate Deo and Te Deum
Handel composed his joyous anthem in 1749 to raise funds for a newly established London children’s charity. As it turned out, the performance was a great success for the charity, and also quite beneficial for Handel’s own career. This piece will be complemented by Bach’s cantata, Praise the Lord; by two of Purcell’s best-known anthems, Jubilate Deo and Te Deum; and by Giovanni Gabrieli's Jubilate Deo.
