Warmth and LIght: Guest Concert Sunday March 22

Sunday March 22, 2015 4pm

Holy Cross Church – 123 High St. Santa Cruz, CA 95060

The spring weather is shouting out to me to get outside, do things: enjoy life!  Perhaps it is doing the same to you, too, and I cannot imagine a better way to spend a Springtime Sunday afternoon than listening to music at Holy Cross Church, especially this up-coming musical feast:

The Santa Cruz Chorale is delighted to welcome Resounding Achord, conducted by Kristina Nakagawa, in a concert entitled “Warmth and Light,” a beautiful set of choral works that reveal how different composers depict illumination and comfort.

Resounding Achord has garnered acclaim and interest, not just because of their performance quality but also for their eclectic and lively programming. This has made them a wonderful counterpoint and complement to the Santa Cruz Chorale, and an intuitive choice to be our guests for this March concert.

From Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia” to “This Little Light of Mine” by Moses Hogan, this concert will showcase a constellation of sparkling and well-loved selections, as well as works not as familiar to our audiences. Eric Whitacre’s transcendent “Lux Aurumque” will appear in addition to Craig Hella Johnson’s moving arrangement of Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.”  The experienced voices of both chorales will dedicate their combined sounds to Orlando Di Lasso’s “Ola, o che bon eccho” as well as the contemporary Arvo Pärt’s “Magnificat”, which was composed in honor of Christian Grube, the Santa Cruz Chorale’s Artistic Director. Maestro Grube is emeritus professor of choral conducting at the Berlin University of Arts and has been Artistic Director of the Santa Cruz Chorale since 2006.

This is a perfect concert to share with younger family members, too. Tickets are available online or at the door.

We expect to have so much fun , both listening and singing!  You don’t want to miss it!
