A Delightful Afternoon

Sparkling sunshine over the brilliant blue of the Monterey Bay, old friends and new gathering at the Seymour Center for fine wine, delicious food and joyous music – – it was the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Artistic Director Christian Grube and the singers of the Santa Cruz Chorale thank everyone who participated in our March 16 Spring Benefit Event.

a bouquet of tulips amid appetizers and desserts arranged on a white tableChristian Grube led the singers in a short program that displayed the Chorale’s versatility and skill: from a lively Scarlatti motet, Exultate jubilate, to works in Latvian and Ukrainian and a lyrical song to the beauty of the English countryside by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Linden Lea. A surprise turnaround had the audience join the Chorale to sing the three-part Dona Nobis Pacem, with Chorale members dispersed into the crowd. One delighted guest said, “I’m a churchgoer, so I’m accustomed to having people sing around me, but I never heard voices like this sing with me. It was magical!”

The funds raised through our Spring Benefit support the Chorale in many ways. For our next concert, the magnificent Brahms German Requiem, May 18th and 19th, Benefit funds will help support the cost of soloists and orchestral players. Again, we offer sincere thanks to all who attended our Spring Benefit and donated to keep the music coming!
