Have You ever heard a performance of Handel’s “Foundling Hospital Anthem?” Most likely not…

Dear Music Friends,

Have you ever heard a performance of Handel’s “Foundling Hospital Anthem?”  Most likely not, because hardly anybody has. The versatile G.F.Handel was able to adapt elements from various of his compositions to create what is a true masterpiece in its own right, but one that has been overshadowed by “Messiah.” This weekend the Santa Cruz Chorale is offering the rare opportunity of hearing not only the “Foundling Hospital Anthem”/”Blessed are they that considereth the poor,” but a festive cantata by Handel’s great contemporary Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 137), as well as two anthems by Henry Purcell.  The sounds of our final rehearsals (with soloists and instrumentalists) are already filling Holy Cross Church, and you won’t want to miss what is sure to be a spectacular musical event.
